Was ist ein CRM?

CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. The term describes both the strategic orientation towards the customer and the tools used for this purpose, first and foremost CRM software.

A CRM system is a software solution that allows companies to systematically record, analyse, and manage customer contacts. It supports sales, Marketing and customer service, centralising customer data, documenting interactions, and automating processes.

For example: If a prospect makes an enquiry, sales can use the CRM system to track the communication history, create quotes and plan follow-up actions – all in one place.

Compared to conventional databases

While traditional databases only store isolated information, a CRM system goes far beyond that. It links customer data with interactions, purchasing behaviour, support requests, and marketing activities. This creates a 360-degree view of the customer, which is essential for individual communication and personalised offers.

Was ist eine CRM Software?

CRM software is the tool for implementing a successful CRM strategy. It offers functions such as:

  • Contact data management

  • Sales pipeline management

  • Lead scoring and tracking

  • Email and campaign automation

  • Service tickets and helpdesk management

  • Evaluations and Reports (Dashboards)

Depending on the provider, CRM software can be used as an on-premise solution or cloud-based.

What does CRM mean in concrete terms for day-to-day business? In short: more structure, better collaboration, and more efficient customer engagement. Teams work with the same up-to-date data, avoid duplicate communication, and spot opportunities more quickly.

Successful CRM not only helps to better serve existing customers, but also to specifically acquire new customers and retain them in the long term. The answer to the question „What is CRM?“ can be summarised as follows: It is a central tool for managing customer relationships – both strategically and technically. Whether it's a small business or a large corporation: a well-implemented CRM system improves customer loyalty, increases efficiency and creates real competitive advantages.
